So, with Spider-man: Far From Home currently making all the money at the box-office and Tom Holland’s contract with Marvel’s MCU now up (although he still has a contract for one more movie with Sony, which is interesting), everyone is looking forward to see what’s next.. after all, the movie ended on a pretty big cliffhanger.
So will we get a resolution? Don’t forget, Amazing Spider-man 2 ended on a cliffhanger and we all were ready for Spider-man 4 back in the day, so nothing is certain.
Producer Amy Pascal had this to say: “You know, I don’t think that we’re ready to tell anybody yet. But, yes, of course, there are so many stories that you can tell about Peter Parker and Spider-Man. I think the multi-verse and the Spider-Verse has opened up unlimited possibilities for us.
“I think that the great thing about what Stan [Lee] and Steve [Ditko] did, is that they are characters that can be reinterpreted. It’s 1962, it’s a long time for something to remain fresh, and yet it’s been able to. I think that’s because just like all of the artists who did all of the various spectacular, amazing, ultimate, everything has been able to reinterpret these kinds of classical characters. We’re able to do that, too.”
Now, this can certainly be read as yes, Spider-man and Tom Holland will return, but i find Pascal’s wording interesting here.
She at no point says THIS version of Spider-man will return. She mentions the multiverse and the Spider-verse which, is it just me, could mean we’ll see other version of Spider-man? Into the Spider-Verse gave us two other versions of Peter Parker, so I don’t think this means they’re clamouring to get back into the MCU.
Although, they’d be crazy not to be.
At the minute Sony and Pascal hold all the cards when it comes to Parker and Spider-man – they have Holland, they were likely behind the cliffhanger ending and, if all reports are to be believed, they want Venom to merge into the MCU, so while it is likely Holland will come back into the MCU, nothing is definite.
Yet.
