The Batman II and Batman: The Brave and the Bold movies both pushed back

What is happening in Gotham City? It seems that not one but two Batman movies have been pushed back… and they aren’t even in the same universe!

The highly anticipated The Batman: Part II from writer/director Matt Reeves has once again been delayed, this time being pushed back a whole year from October 2nd, 2026 to October 1st, 2027.

While no official reason has been given for the delay, there’s rumours abound ranging from Reeves has personal issues that have caused a delay to the script has been scrapped and they’re starting again.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman II script is nearly done and Penguin season 2 is being discussed

DCU boss James Gunn has addressed the push back and the concern that it will be a full five years between The Batman parts one and two, saying that the issue is that Reeves’ script isn’t finished and he’s striving to get it perfect: “Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can and no one can accurately guess how long a script will take to write,” Gunn says.

“To be fair, a 5-year gap or more is fairly common in sequels,” Gunn also said, adding: “7 years between Alien and Aliens. 14 years between Incredibles. 7 years between the first two Terminators. 13 years between Avatars. 36 years between Top Guns. And, of course, 6 years between Guardians Vol 2 and Vol 3”

However, this isn’t the only shakeup in Gotham.

Second The Batman spinoff series beign developed… Harvey Dent to be focus?

Related to this, although perhaps not directly, The Flash director Andy Muschietti has spoken about being hired to direct the DCU’s Batman: The Brave and the Bold movie and has revealed that it has been ‘postponed’ for a while, so he might make a sci-fi movie he’s wanted to do for a while first.

Now, we know there’s lots of chatter that Robert Pattinson’s Batman is currently being sought to become the Batman of Gunn’s DCU, meaning that Reeves’ Batman and Penguin universe is actually set in the same world as Creature Commandos, Peacemaker and next year’s Superman movie.

Now, while there’s no direct evidence to support this, we do know that Reeves is producing the upcoming Clayface movie (here) which is now confirmed to be set in the wider DCU although for a while, it was thought to be set in the world of Reeves’ Batman (we’ve met Clayface officially in the DC in last week’s Creature Commandos).

Add to this that Muschietti’s Brave and the Bold is now also delayed and I have to say, I really get the feeling they’re looking to get Pattinson into the DCU – an idea, by the way, which I am fully onboard with.

Now, this would mean, for example, that Peacemaker takes place in the same world as The Penguin and while that seems very unlikely, tonally, no-one complained too much when the Thor of Ragnorok and Love and Thunder was the same Thor we saw in the Avengers movies… Gunn has said all along that there will be different tones and approaches to different stories and characters and I’m ok with that – Gotham City is a whole different animal than other cities, so personally, I can live with it.

Thoughts? I want to hear them…
