I reported last month that forty years after the first movie, a sequel to The Goonies is officially happening and now we have some cool details about the project.
Old Henry and *shudder* Jay & Silent Bon Reboot’s Potsy Ponciroli has signed on to write the new movie which, excitingly, has Steven Spielberg back as producer along with original Goonies writer Chris Columbus and legendary movie producer and wife of original movie director Richard Donner, Lauren Shuler Donner, is exec producing.
As of right now there is no director or plot to report on, though I’d imagine these details will be forthcoming pretty soon.
Original stars Sean Astin (Mike), Jeff Cohen (Chunk), Josh Brolin (Brandon), Kerri Green (Andi), Corey Feldman (mouth) and Ke Huy Quan (Data) all reunited for the premiere of Love Hurts starring Quan and Astin and there’s no denying how exciting it was seeing them all together again and looking like they could easily step back into those roles again, even after all these years.
The original movie told the story of a bunch of kids who found an old treasure map and went on an adventure to find pirate treasure while trying to escape from a nasty group of the bad guys also hunting for it.
The first is considered a classic often mentioned with similar reverence as Ghostbusters, E.T. and Star Wars.
At the premiere of Love Hurts, Quan was asked about a potential reunion and answered: “It’s one of the most asked questions in my life. I would love for it to happen.”
Asked the same question, star of the original Corey Feldman answered: “Get us all together. Everybody is looking good… we’re all looking good still, and we’re all alive. Goonies never say die… there’s hope.”

It looks like he’s not wrong.
Just please, Hollywood, don’t tarnish yet another beloved classic, just do this one right. And with all the original cast.
Thoughts, guys? I want to hear them!
