With Ron Howard back in the Nerdsphere with Solo: A Star Wars Story, it looks like he – and Lucasfilm – may be capitalising on it.
Speaking to Comicbook, Howard revealed than a sequel to, yes, let’s say it, cult favourite, Willow could be in the works.
Enter the world of Willow. Journey to the far corners of your imagination, to a land of myth and magic, where dream and reality live side by side … to a place that never existed, a time that never was. It is a world where a young man named Willow (Warwick Davis) lives out an adventure that explodes beyond the boundaries of his own hopes and fears.
“I don’t want to give away too much,” says Howard.
“But there is a little talk of Willow. We wouldn’t call it Willow 2, I think it would focus a lot on Elora Danan, although Willow would have to be significantly involved.”
The director explains that Willow was forefront of his ind while working on Solo: “I thought about [Willow] a lot as I was working on Solo because there are certain scenes, especially around some of the Madmartigan stuff, was reminiscent of a character with that kind of swagger and bravado. And also some of the humor around some of the action in Willow was something I inspired to get into Solo.”
Being honest, Willow isn’t a favourite of mine, with it inhabiting the same corner of my universe as Howard the Duck, but we’re always behind exciting fantasy cinema and bringing Howard and Davis back together could definitely be something to look forward too.
