Thunderbolts* director in line for X-Men, explains why Sentry’s origins were changed so much

It looks like the success of Thunderbolts*/The New Avengers has led the folks at Marvel to decide that director Jake Schreier has a big future ahead of him… directing mutantkind.

Yes, word on the street is that Marvel/Disney wants Schreier to helm the first X-Men movie from the studio and are currently in negotiations with him about it.

Reports are that he’s Marvel boss Kevin Feige’s top choice for the gig which has been written by Michael Lesslie.

Speaking of Schreier, he has also confirmed why the Thunderbolts*/The New Avengers movie rewrote the great comic book origins of Sentry, played by Bill Pullman, left.

In the comics, Sentry was a hero before Captain America or the Avengers, who saved the world and fought for good but when he grew afraid that his dark alter-ego, the Void, might someday take him over, he made the world, including himself, forget he ever existed, meaning that everyone was safe from the darkness within him.

Sound familiar, MCU fans?

“Obviously, we couldn’t tell that same story because of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. Thanks, Jon [Watts],” said Schreier.’

In No Way Home, Peter Parker/Spider-man accidentally messed up a Dr Strange spell, resulting in Spider-man villains from all across the multiverse coming to Earth 626 and the only way to undo his mistake was to get Strange to cast another spell, this time making everyone – everyone – forget who Peter Parker was, meaning he was completely alone in the world, something that will undoubtedly be dealt with in the next Spider-man movie when it arrives next July.

I was annoyed that Sentry’s origins were undone in Thunderbolts*, although I do admit to enjoying the movie overall, and I’m angry at myself for not even realising it was likely because they already did that story with Spider-man.

Makes me wonder once more… do the MCU writers even speak to each other?

Thoughts? I know you have ’em and I wanna hear them all…
