More great news for those of us excited for the Zack Snyder Cut of Justice League which is coming to HBO Max next year (here) as Tom Holkenborg AKA Junkie XL has confirmed that his score for the movie is finished and ready to go.
Holkenborg worked with Hans Zimmer on the masterful score for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and was set to score Justice League; however, after Zack Snyder stepped away from the movie and Joss Whedon was hired to take over, Warners dumped Holkenborg’s work and brought in Batman ’89 composer Danny Elfman.
Now, before we go any further, I love Elfman’s work – I’ve been a massive fan of his since 1989 and, as such, I actually really enjoyed his score of Justice League. However, Hans Zimmer’s Man of Steel and He and Holkenborg’s BvS score are among my favourite scores of the last decade, so I was disappointed too when the proper score was lost, so this is exciting news for a lot of people.
Now, in a new interview, Junkie XL confirmed confirms what we have waited a long time to hear… his score is finished and ready to be used.
When asked if the score exists and if he could release it himself, he replied: “Well, I definitely could, but I won’t. The full score is still there. It’s a really great score, and it’s just there. It never goes away. We’ll see what happens in the future, you know?”
He was then asked if he thinks we’ll ever hear the score, obviously alluding to it being used on the Snyder Cut of Justice League, to which he replied: “I have no comment on that. But I’m just saying, it’s there. The full tracks.”
The last official word from Holkenborg – before the movie was taken over by Whedon – was that he hadn’t started on the score yet, and this new update suggests that perhaps he has finished the full tracks on his own time… make of that what you will.
Look, it’s pretty much unthinkable at this stage that Zack Snyder’s cut will be released without the Junkie XL score, so I’d imagine we’ll be hearing it in the action very, very soon.
I just hope it gets the full vinyl release because there’s little that sounds better that the MoS and BvS scores on a good old record player.
Anyway, what do you all think? Are you excited for the release of this score along with the movie? I want to hear your thoughts, gang.
