It looks like, for the billionth time, the Transformers franchise at Paramount is being redeveloped for a new launch in the next couple of years.
The story of shape-shifting sentient warring robots from an alien world is certainly one that has lots to offer, so it’s hardly surprising that Paramount can’t let it sleep.
Yes, not one but two new movies are being written by Murder Mystery writer James Vanderbilt and the other by Army of the Dead scribe Joby Harold.
Word is that the first project, the one by Vanderbilt, is based on the popular spin-off CGI series Transformers: Beast Wars which uses the same basic premise only instead of vehicles, the robots turn into animals, dinosaurs, etc.
The second movie is reportedly a sequel of sorts to 2018’s Bumblebee movie. Both movies will be set in the same universe.
With Bumblebee breaking away from the precious Michale Bay movies, it was the one that the fans warmed to the most, likely due to it using pretty accurate Generation 1 (original Transformers) designs and a personal story that really stuck to who the characters are. Bay’s movies were entertaining enough but treated the ‘bots like so may nameless cannon fodder and that just didn’t sit right with the fans.
Is it too late for the Transformers franchise or would you be excited to see more movies set in the world of Bumblebee? I want to hear…
