While early word on Universal’s first Dark Universe installment, The Mummy, has it sitting between poor to not bad, it look alike Universal is planning on bringing even more of their famous monsters into the shared universe.
While we already have confirmation (here) of The Invisible Man and Bride of Frankenstein, it looks like there’s a lot more still to come.
The Mummy director, Alex Kurtzman, has said of the future of the studio’s shared universe: “We know we’re going to do Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Phantom of the Opera, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Invisible Man,”
So far we know that Frankenstein and Invisible Man were announced as cornerstones of the franchise, with Javier Bardem and Johnny Depp in the roles. But Hunchback of Notre Dame, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Phantom of the Opera and Dracula are all new…
It’s curious that they are taking another stab at Dracula as, you may recall, the Monsters Universe was attempted a while bad with Dracula Untold as the planned starting point, however when that movie failed the clock was reset and restarted with The Mummy.
Perhaps second time is the charm? Well, it all depends on how well Tom Cruise’s The Mummy delivers when it opens this weekend.
The Mummy is set to unwrap in theaters on June 9th.
