We’re only a few days out from the newest installment of the Fast & Furious saga, Fast X, and star Vin Diesel just dropped a couple of massive bits of news about the future of the franchise.
We’ve known for a while now that Fast X was planned as the first of a two-part movie finale for the series and until now, we’ve not heard any different. Well, until last night at least.
Speaking at the Premiere of the movie in Rome last night, Diesel revealed that the studio, after seeing the movie, have asked that it be a three-part finale, meaning we have two more movies after this one – as a big Fast Fan, I have no issue with this at all; “It’s three acts in every story.” commented co-star Michell Rodriquez.

However, that wasn’t all the news.
We’ve known, again for a while, that while the main Fast & Furious story ends here, there will be more spinoffs eventually, much like Hobbs & Shaw, but Diesel has revealed that the core story is likely to get a reboot… and he’s planning on coming back for that! “Well, we always figured it would lead into a reboot of the entire franchise. And I will star in the reboot,” he reportedly commented.
So… two more Fast movies coming and a probably reboot at the end of it? Surely, that’s all the big news?
SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT
Well, no.
Probably because the movie has now been seen, the studio is worried about leaks, so they got ahead of the rumour mill and confirmed that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is coming back and will appear in Fast X as recurring character Luke Hobbs!
Johnson and Deisel have had numerous very public fallouts over the years and Johnson has previously sworn that he would not be appearing in the movies going forward but he would continue to star in the Hobbs & Shaw movies with Jason Statham, but it seems that that is now water under the bridge.
Rumours circulated a while back of last-minute reshoots/additional filming on the movie, with many speculating that after the failure of Black Adam, Johnson wanted to return to the Fast movies – but that’s all speculation at this stage. I’m hearing that his appearance is very small – likely a post-credit scene – but will set up the next movie or two movies as the case may be.
Thoughts? I know you have them! Voice-off in the usual ways on FTN’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
Fast X is directed by Louis Leterrier and starring Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jason Momoa, Nathalie Emmanuel, John Cena, Charlize Theron, Helen Mirren, Brie Larson and Rita Moreno; it opens on May 19th.
