Lord of the Rings fans rejoice! It seems Warner Bros are taking a positive step in returning Middle Earth to its pre-Amazon glory.
While the recent Rings of Power series has its fans – and more power to them – it seems that overall, Tolkien fans were less than enamoured by it and it looks like WB, who made the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit Trilogies, may have the answer.
Recently Warners announced that they too plan on creating their own LOTR content. The announcement came from Discovery CEO David Zaslav declared in the company’s earnings call, ten years after Peter Jackson’s now-iconic first trilogy – which garnered 17 Oscars! – ended.
However, much to the delight of fans of Middle Earth, word is that the studio is approaching Jackon and his writing partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens to come back and oversee a Lord of the Rings shared universe, similar to that of Marvel with movies and TV shows, only with orcs, elves and magic adventures.
While Amazon has committed to making 50 hours of Lord of the Rings content, it makes Middle Earth feel a lot smaller; that said, despite the mixed reception of the far-below-par-when-compared-to-the-first-trilogy, i feel that the fandom would be more likely to swarm to Jackson’s return than anyone else’s work on the franchise.
Personally, I’m not the biggest fan of Lord of the Rings but I do think this would be a great move on WB’s behalf and along with their seeming commitment to make the Harry Potter universe much bigger, the studio is certainly looking to make themselves the home of magic and fantasy.
Fair play.
