WATCH: Did John Krasinski accidentally reveal he’s been cast in Fantastic Four movie?

Sooooooo… we all know that The Office star and long-term fancast for Reed Richards popped up in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as, well, Reed Richards… but not the Reed Richards of Earth 616, the MCU’s prime earth.

And it was cool while it lasted before he was killed in a rather unpleasant way by Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch but we all believed that, well, the Fantastic Story movie is coming, so he’ll be back as the MCU’s Reed. That was until Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron said that Krasinski isn’t necessarily set to return as the world’s smartest man and leader of the Fantastic Four (here).

Whhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

Well, in a new appearance on the Jimmy Fallon show, bottom, Krasinski said “Well, that’s why I did Fantastic Four…” while chatting to the talk show host about his career.

Spielberg approached to direct MCU Fantastic Four movie?

Now, this is likely a slip of the tongue and he meant to say Reed Richards and is likely nothing.

Honestly, that’s the most likely thing here.

However…

Could he have made that mistake so many of us do – usually with things less secretive than the MCU movies – and said what was on his mind rather than on his tongue? I mean, we’re expecting to hear at D23 in September more about Fantastic Four and its inevitable casting… surely they have to be casting it at the minute and despite what Waldron said, Krasinski, if he’s keen, has to be the leading choice for the role of Reed.

Heck, Marvel boss Kevin Feige has in the last couple of days spoken about the movie and how – after two adaptations in recent years – it won’t be an origins movie: “A lot of people know this origin story,” he said.

“A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?

“We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”

But look, we honestly believe it’s likely nothing… but the eternally optimistic fanboys within us believe that maybe, just maybe, Krasinski accidentally revealed big news about where he’s set to appear next in the MCU.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
