Right, here’s the flu disclosure… i liked Jared Leto’s take on The Joker.
I’ve always seen the character as a fluid entity, being a merciless killer one day and a silly jokester the next. His Joker was something very different and, honestly, I really enjoyed his turn in Suicide Squad. And, for that reason, while I really want more DC/Joker movies, I would like to see his take on the character remain (at least for now).
However, as I’m sure you’re all aware, there’s been come crazy rumours recently that DC/Warners plan a new banner of live-action movies that are separate from the core movies (Man of Steel, Batman V Superman, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman etc), much like the Elseworld comics of old.
And the first one to be made will be a Joker movie produced by the legend that is Martin Scorsese (here).
Now, personally, I’m dubious about the whole thing and, as with most of the fans, seven we’re a little confused about the whole thing.
But if there’s one man who should know what’s going on it’s Jared Leto, right?
Well, no.
Leto has been asked (full interview below) about his Joker and what he sees his future as in the DC universe… is he still involved in the Joker & Harley movie that’s apparently happening? And he’s a little confuse too: “Yeah, I think so [that they’re both being developed]. I’m a little confused too. Yeah, there are a couple of things happening in the DC world.”
It’s interesting because, apart from rumours, this is as close to a confirmation that it is happening as we’re likely to get for now.
The actor goes on to explain that playing The Joker is never a concrete thing, but rather a temporary deal: “I love the Joker. He’s a great character and really fun character to play. But it’s a big universe and when you play the Joker, there’s no ownership there. You have the honor of holding the baton for a little while and then passing it off. There are other films that are in development and I’m excited to see what comes from them.”
So, what do you think? Will the ‘other Joker movie’ happen? Is it silly? Brave? Smart? Let us know your thoughts on the whole weird deal…
