The legendary Michael J Fox has spoken a bit about what he would like to see, should Back to the Future ever get a reboot or fourth installment.
And it might raise a few eyebrows… but don’t worry either way, because another Back to the Future is not going to happen. We hope.
Recently, writer/director Robert Zemeckis and co-writer Bob Gale once and for all put an end to the idea of more movies in the series.
On the topic of what another movie would be, Gale said: “Well, it would have to be that Doc and Marty find out that we’re thinking about making another Back to the Future movie. They come back to stop us from doing such a crazy thing.”
That time Back to the Future crossed over with Transformers
And Zemeckis added: “If I had an idea that I could have pitched to Bob with a straight face, we would have made it. I have no answer to that question.”
In the past, Zemeckis said: “There will never, ever be, in the most absolutely way, a Back to the Future 4. There will be no more Back to the Future.”
So, there’s no chance of another movie in the franchise or a reboot… and I salute that! But the topic does come up and we’re sure the actors get it all the time too.
In a new interview with ET, below, Fox is asked if there will be a reboot and the star replies “Not with me”.
Continues after interview:
The actor, now 61, has Parkinson’s disease and takes roles few and far between as does his co-star Christopher Lloyd who is now 81, so the chances of them both coming back for a new Back to the Future movie… but Fox seems to reckon that SHOULD it happen, it should do what so many reboots/sequels/remakes are now doing and do it “with a girl as Marty”.
The actor believes that this would give “a different perspective on it…”
I have no doubt that a few years ago before, for example, Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, this would have been a fresh idea and, if the same talent were behind it, undoubtedly would have been a welcome addition to the lore, however, in today’s hellscape landscape, it would probably just result in the movie falling into the ‘easily forgotten’ drawer that so many great franchises do these days.
The original trilogy is a treasure, something passed down from generation to generation, from parents to children, on and on… and that’s the way it should stay at this stage.
Speaking of Back to the Future, fans have used the customization option on the new Ghostbusters game, Spirits Unleashed, to make Doc and Marty playable characters and we absolutely love it! Read the whole story here and check them out here:
