SO, if there is one group of fans online who will not lie down, it’s the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut crew, and this week they had more reason than ever to hope that, now that they have seen Zack Snyder’s Justice League released, we may finally see Snyder’s vision for the DC universe fully realised on screen.
Fans of Snyder’s DC movies – Man of Steel, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League – will know that the director had a vision for the DCEU and the direction it would take moving forward after his movies told their core story. they will also know that, because of negative reactions and reviews to Batman V Superman, DC/Warners got cold feet and changed direction on the DCEU, starting with their botched attempt to retool Justice League.
However, as time movies on, it seems that fans more and more want to see Snyder’s plan reinstated.
This was best realised when Zack Snyder’s Justice League was released earlier this year and, despite HBO Max/Warners never fully revealing how well it did, despite all reports being that it did phenomenally well, calls for the sequel and movies in that continuity seemed to go ignored.
However, in a new video about the company, Priya Dogra, President of WarnerMedia, called Snyder’s film a ‘global phenomena’.
Watch here:
This is an interesting about-face, given that we’ve been met with basically radio silence since the movie’s release.
But what does it mean?
Well, maybe nothing but the timing does seem convenient, given that DC Fandowe, where all the big DC news and trailer will be appearing, is only a few days away.
On top of this, Batgirl co-director Bilall Fallah just shared a very interesting image on his social media pages with the hashtag #Batgirl:
Now, this is interesting as it clearly shows the director staring at Ben Affleck’s Batman cowl from Justice League – with Wonder Woman 1984’s gold helmet, what seems to be Riddler’s mask from The Batman, an unknown Batman cowl, and Flash’s helmet from Justice League. But why is he looking at it?
Well, we know that JK Simmons will be back as Commissioner Gordon in the HBO Max Batgirl movie (here) alongside Leslie Grace’s Batgirl. This means that, despite all rumours to the contrary, Warners/DC is trying to keep Snyder’s universe alive in some way.
However, it also has us wondering if, following Ben Affleck’s saying he had fun playing Batman/Bruce Wayne (here) it makes us wonder if we might actually see him in the Batgirl movie? After all, it would be very hard to make a Batgirl story without at least having Batman as a presence in the movie.
Anyways, what do you think about all this? Let me know your thoughts…
