Well, this cannot be a coincidence that, just before the Loki season finale aired, Ryan Reynolds shared a fun review of the new trailer for his upcoming movie Free Guy with costar Taika Waititi only it’s a bit unusual as it features the stars as their Marvel counterparts Deadpool and Kurg.
So, essentially, this is Deadpool’s first official appearance in the MCU as Korg was featured in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers Endgame.
Now, we know that Deadpool is coming to the MCU although, according to Marvel boss Kevin Feige it’s not going to be anytime soon (here)… and yet, here we are.
The video is a fun little bit of fluff between friends Reynolds and Waititi – the MCYoutubers – who also starred in Green Lantern together all those years ago but the transformation of the duo into these highly recognisable characters while advertising a movie developed under Fox but now released by Disney was highly unexpected.
And I’m wondering if, given how Loki has changed the MCU forever going forward (here), could this be more than fluff but rather me Reynolds’ official ‘welcome to the MCU’?
Personally, I’m taking it as a nice bit of self-referential fun that welcomes Deadpool into the MCU. what about you guys? Let me know your thoughts.
