Oh, man, this news has given me whiplash, I swear…
Last night Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa, took to Instagram to share an image of him on the set of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdoms’ reshoots and along with him was none other than Ben Affleck himself, Batman/Bruce Wayne to the DCEU.
Momoa wrote: “REUNITED bruce and arthur. love u and miss u Ben WB studio tours just explored the backlot alright. busted on set all great things coming AQUAMAN 2 all my aloha j”

Arthur being Arthur Curry AKA Aquaman and Bruce being Bruce Wayne AKA Batman. This confirms that Ben Affleck, who we learned was done playing Batman after his upcoming appearance in The Flash, however, we think we know what’s happening here.
We heard a while back that Micheal Keaton, who has signed a multi-picture deal at Warners/DC, will appear in the Aquaman sequel’s post-credit scene; this would come after events of The Flash movie would see the DCEU changed, with Keaton becoming the main Batman, replacing Affleck, who would also appear early in the movie.
However, with the DC movie slate now being changed around and Aquaman 2 coming out before rather than after The Flash, we think Affleck will be the Batman appearing in the Aquaman post-credit scene as Keaton appearing would make no sense as he would not yet be established as the core Batman.
If true, this means that Affleck has two more appearances in the DCEU before hanging up his cape and staying as the prime Batman. Of course, the alternative is that Keaton is no longer the future of the DCEU and Affleck is, in fact, staying. This isn’t impossible at all, given that WB is now under new control and word is they’re unhappy with how the DCEU is being handled and puzzled as to why it’s not rivaling the MCU by now.
But, personally, given Affleck’s feelings on being part of big IPs like this, I can’t help feeling this is a cameo that will help tie the DCEU’s two incarnations together, however, with all the rumours of Henry Cavill’s return as Superman in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and/or Black Adam, it’s all still very much guesswork.
Thoughts?
Also, this genuinely made me giggle…
