It seems that Zack Snyder’s Justice League (mini-series) on HBO Max will have a very different but familiar opening.
Fans of the theatrical movie will recall that the movie opens with a criminal robbing a house and being caught by Affleck’s Batman but it seems Snyder’s new movie will have a very different opening.
In a new interview Snyder reveals that his version of the movie will open with Superman’s death at the hands of Doomsday as we witnessed in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice but this time we will see it from the perspective of Batman.
“There’s another moment where you see Batman lowering that grenade launcher he used to fire his last kryptonite [bullet] on [Doomsday].” says Snyder.
“He’s lowering it and you see him [witnessing] the sacrifice that Superman has just done. And I think it’s full circle, weirdly, if you think about it. The First moment he saw Superman, he was like ‘That motherf***er!‘ And now, in this moment, he’s going ‘That guy just gave his life to save all of us‘.”
This scene will help demonstrate Superman’s heroic act to save the world that all the tributes to him are for in Justice League – it also cements Batman’s new-found drive to bring him back, to save him.
In Batman V Superman Batman started out hating Superman and by the end had a newfound respect for him but the opening of Justice League will cement the fact that now it’s not respect but sheer regret at not being able to save him and probably too for the hatred he had, the misunderstanding of who Superman really was.
It’s pretty important to the arc of the story if you really think about it.

Batman is all of us… he is our rage at injustice… he stands alone, as we all wish we could, in the face of a corrupt system which wishes to oppress and exploit… he is that broken child, searching the dark alleys of the human soul to bring balance to the world. #BatmanDay pic.twitter.com/X20jolqqtZ
