Known as one of social media’s most virtuous posters, author Neil Gaiman has recently been accused of sexual assault by several women and as a result, one of his biggest TV shows will have its run cut short which, in fairness, could have been worse as many thought it might not return at all.
Good Omens’ final season was brought to a standstill last month when the horrific accusations against Gaiman came to light and it really felt like Michael Sheen and David Tennant’s Angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley might not be coming back to finish the story left hanging at the end of a disappointing second season, however, it seems all is not lost.
David Tennant and Neil Gaiman talk Good Omens series 3 and how to make it happen
While other projects such as Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book at Disney are looking like they’re now dead in the water, Good Omens has been confirmed to now be getting a single 90-minute episode send-off instead of a full third season… remember when they were called movies?
Gaiman has exited the series altogether given the accusations.
Good Omens is based on the wonderful 1990 novel written by Terry Pratchett from a story by himself and Gaiman; while the book was covered by the show’s first season, Gaiman maintained that he and Pratchett has discussed the story and where it could go next prior to Pratchett’s death and it was based on these conversations that Gaiman wrote the show’s second and third season: “Terry was clear on what he wanted from Good Omens on the telly. He wanted the story told, and if that worked, he wanted the rest of the story told,” Gaiman said in 2021.
While the first series was infinitely better, the second season ended on an annoying cliffhanger, so it will at least be good to get closure on the story but I know that as a massive fan of Pratchett’s book, the story of Crowley and Aziraphale began and ended in the pages of that book, everything else, especially given these new revelations, is just glorified fan fiction.
