Great news for all you Stargate fans as Amazon is officially opening the gate once again for another slew of adventures.
And as if that’s not enough, it seems the series is being brought to the screen by a veteran of the original series, Martin Gero, who will write, exec produce, and showrun.
“Twenty years ago, my first real job in television was as a Story Editor on Stargate: Atlantis,” Gero says in a statement about the new series.
James Cameron says there’s a plan for two more Alita: Battle Angel movies
“I spent five years at the franchise working across all three series, ‘Stargate’ taught me everything about making television — it’s written into my DNA. I’m beyond thrilled that Amazon MGM Studios has entrusted me with guiding this incredible franchise into its next phase. For those who’ve kept the gate active through conventions, rewatches, and unwavering faith — this one’s for you. And for those that are new to our world — I promise you’re in for something extraordinary.”
Stargate started as a Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich movie in 1994, starring Kurt Russell and James Spader and then led to three TV series with Stargate: Atlantis, Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Universe as well as two direct-to-DVD movies, so it may not quite be Star Trek but it’s certainly a story and series that has a lot of fans and there’s no doubt this new series will be warmly welcomed by fans.
I have to admit that, while I liked the movie, I never spent any time with the shows, any of them, but I have friends (and a wife) who were big fans of it, so maybe it’s time ot catch up before the new series arrives.
Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all!
