Could there really be a possibility of Tom Welling re-joining the DC TV universe as Superman?

OK, so we’ve been reporting on the ‘Tom Welling may play Superman in the Arrow-verse’ rumours for a while now, but now it seems like there is actually a chance. Sort of. Maybe.

Smallville started 15 years ago (I know, we feel old too) and the fandom has never really forgotten it. And now, with Arrow, The Flash, Constantine and even Supergirl going from strength to strength, the talk of Welling coming back is, well, back.

Could we perhaps see Welling as Superman in Supergirl? Well, we know that Superman is in the universe of the show already and also that CBS is planning on hiring a young actor to play young Clark Kent (here) and now, fuelling the fires, Tom Welling has signed on to has joined the new CBS series Section 13 as both star and Executive Producer through his Tom Welling Productions.

Now, obviously this is pure speculation but having Welling at CBS would certainly make things easier and, with CBS and CW being sister stations and the rumours that The Flash will appear in Supergirl early next year (here), this would officially make Smallville part of the new DC Universe on TV. Heck, even if he’s Superman from a different earth, it would be spectacularly awesome.

Don’t forget that Supergirl has already had a previous Superman in the form of Dean Cain, a former Supergirl in the form of  Helen Slater, The Flash has original Flash John Wesley Shipp as Barry Allen’s dad and Smallville started the tradition by having both Margot Kidder and Christopher Reeve appear. So the idea of having Welling back isn’t really THAT outlandish.

Let us know your thoughts, would you like to see Welling in the blue and red? Sound off below and on the social pages, folks…

Oh and just in case you’re wondering if he could still play him? We’d say yeah…
