Yes! It’s official, we are allowed to be excited for Doctor Who again!
After learning just over a week ago that Jodie Whittaker’s finale would air in October and will be an hour and a half long (here) and that Ncuti Gatwa is our new Doctor, we have had confirmation that one of our personal favorite Doctors and companions are returning too.
Meet the fourteenth Doctor
Yes, the BBC has confirmed that David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor and Catherine Tate’s Donna Noble are both returning for the 60th-anniversary episode next year which is currently filming.
This will reunite the duo with returning showrunner Russell T Davies, left, who will be guiding the show into its new reinvention after the disastrous few years it’s just had.
What isn’t for sure yet is in what capacity the twosome will be back. Smith appeared in the show’s 50th anniversary special alongside then Doctor Matt Smith but what way he’ll fit in this time is yet to be confirmed.
“THEY’RE BACK! The Doctor and Donna!” teased Davies on Instagram
Could Edgar Wright be directing the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Special?
“But… how?! He wiped her memory! If she remembers, she’ll die! But, but… is it a flashback? A dream sequence? A lie? A fantasy? A parallel universe?! Alt Doctor? The Land of Fiction?! You’ll find out in 2023 as Doctor Who hits its 60th – diamond! – anniversary! ♥️♥️➕🔷”

Could this mean the stars will be more than just special stars in the 60th anniversary special? We can but hope… after all, the two have had a long-running team-up with Big Finish, so there’s plenty of stories to be told. Oh, and by the way, as much as we loved Rose and Martha, Donna was the Ninth’s best companion by a long-shot. Come at me.
Continues after video:
While some may feel this is a publicity stunt, it’s a very clever one because Doctor Who is at the lowest ebb its ever been right now and Tennant and Tate were the show’s heyday, so this will certainly take fans back and hopefully show them that the show still loves them and wants them onboard.
This is exciting news and just makes us all the more excited for the 60th and has us excited for Doctor Who again and it feels really good… it’s a feeling we’ve missed and it also gives us hope that Donna will get a happier ending than she got originally as we’re still not over what happened her all these years later.
Thoughts?
