First images and plot details drop for Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2

So, we found out a few days ago that Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2 would be arriving on October 30th (here) and now we have our first images courtesy of EW… surely a trailer can’t be far off?!

Anyway, the new issue of Entertainment Weekly also reveals some new details on the new season.

This season’s big bad Moff Gideon, played by Giancarlo Esposito, is set to rock the boat this season in a big way, it seems… don’t forget he still has that Darksaber as we saw at the end of Season One.

“I’ll be going toe-to-toe with Mando… It’s an iconic battle,” says Esposito.

“I want to disarm him mentally as well. Who knows? Maybe there’s an opportunity to get him to fight some battles for me. You may think I’m a villain, but I’m trying to harness some energy and some powers for a path that could be best for all. You’ll get to see him be somewhat diplomatic and more of a manipulator.”

It also seems that Gideon will know how to use the Darksaber, the legendary Mandorian weapon introduced in The Clone Wars: “It’s so exciting for me to be in a show where I can wear a cape and own it, and where I can have a lightsaber and really own it.”

Oh and he said he’s have “one-on-one time” with The Child AKA Baby Yoda… I’d imagine that proposition might make a few people’s blood run cold.

However, we all know there’s rumours that this season will really deep dive into the Star Wars lore with Characters like Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex appearing (please, please, please!) and it seems that showrunner Jon Favreau knows that this season we may see the attention leaving the Mandalorian a little bit and heading more into the full galaxy far, far away: “The new season is about introducing a larger story in the world.

“The stories become less isolated, yet each episode has its own flavor, and hopefully we’re bringing a lot more scope to the show. Everything gets bigger, the stakes get higher, but also the personal story between the Child and the Mandalorian develops in a way I think people will enjoy.

“As we introduce other characters, there are opportunities to follow different storylines. The world was really captivated by Game of Thrones and how that evolved as the characters followed different storylines – that’s very appealing to me as an audience member.”

Man, I cannot wait to see this because for now, The Mandalorian is where Star Wars lives.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
