You may recall back in June we reported that Star Trek animated series Lower Decks would likely feature some very familiar faces and today we have a cracker.
Yes, Next Generation fans, it’s ok to be excited as John De Lancie is back as the one and only Q!
John de Lancie is returning to Star Trek, and in just the right medium for more Continuum shenanigans.
During Star Trek Day on Tuesday (check it all out here) we got a brief tease of what Lower Decks has to offer for the rest of the season – if you live in the US you can view it here – and in there we got to see the return of the Q Continuum:
So yes, De Lancie is back to voice Q, reprising his role from The Next Generation, Voyager, and Deep Space Nine – although he is rocking his godlike robes from TNG. This is the first time he has played the role since 2001.
Showrunner Mike McMahan said: “So, coming up in an episode we do have John de Lancie joining us, and he is playing Q in a small part. The whole episode isn’t about him, but it’s hard to make a TNG-era show and not have Q show up, so I think an eagle-eyed viewer will be able to catch his appearance.”
So, it seems like it will be a glorified cameo, but hey, big trees from small acorns grow, right?
I’m not the biggest fan of Lower Decks so far, but I’ll hang around for this if nothing else…
Let me know your thoughts, folks.
