So, normally when a voice actor leaves a TV series most people will think it’s not a big deal… just recast, right? Well, trust us, it’s not that easy; especially when it’s someone like the great Harry Shearer.
Shearer was reportedly in negotiations with the men behind The Simpsons last week as he wasn’t happy with the terms of his contract and was holding off from signing on while the rest of the cast all were back on board.
We didn’t report it because, frankly, it felt a little gossipy. But it looks like it all took a turn for the worst for Shearer, the show and especially the fans.
Shearer has now confirmed on Twitter that he is gone from the show, saying: “This is because I wanted what we’ve always had: the freedom to do other work”.
With Shearer voicing, among others, Ned Flanders, Principal Skinner, Mr Burns, Waylon Smithers, Lenny, Jasper, Otto, Kent Brockman, Reverend Lovejoy, Kang, Rainier Wolfcastle, Radioactive Man and Julius Hibbert, it’s almost impossible to imagine the show going into seasons 27 and 28 without him.
With his cast of characters being so broad and including my favourite character (and one of my favourite TV characters of all-time) C Montgomery Burns, I’m not sure if the show will ever be the same without him.
Whatever the outcome, he will be missed…
from James L. Brooks’ lawyer: “show will go on, Harry will not be part of it, wish him the best.”. (1/2)

This because I wanted what we’ve always had: the freedom to do other work. Of course, I wish him the very best. (2/2)
