Ok, hands up if you remember Star Wars: Detours? No?
Wel, way back in 2012 before Disney got its white-gloved hands on our favour galaxy far, far away, Lucasfilm, after the success of Family Guy and Robot Chicken’s Star Wars send-ups, made an anthology series, with Robot Chicken’s Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, that focused on the original and prequel eras and had plenty of laughs at the absurdity of it all.
But, alas, when Disney stepped up, the show was never released and all 40 episodes got stuck on a shelf somewhere in the Disney vaults.
But now, as happened three years ago, Lucasfilm has filed five trademarks related to Star Wars Detours:
- Education and entertainment services
- Toys, games and playthings; gymnastic and sporting articles (except clothing); hand-held units for playing electronic games for use with or without an external display screen or monitor; Christmas stockings; Christmas tree ornaments and decorations; snow globes
- Clothing, footwear and headwear
- Paper and paper articles; cardboard and cardboard articles; printed matter; publications; books; photographs; portraits; paintings; stationery; office and school supplies
- Apparatus for recording, transmission or reproduction of sound or images; audio books; audio recordings; audio and visual recordings; video game software; computer programs and software; consumer electronics and accessories therefore; eyeglasses and sunglasses and accessories therefore; binoculars; decorative magnets; graduated rulers; microphones
Now, we’d love to see this show… yes, we know it looks pretty bad, but man, we really want to see it.
However, while we (mostly) hope this is going to get released, we reckon it may just mean that Disney/Lucasfilm are aiming to keep the trademark alive.
To do this, after the show’s creation the first renewal much happen in five years – that would be the one we reported on above – the next renewal must happen within a further four years (or nine years after the first renewal) and that is most likely what we are seeing here.
However, with Disney launching a streaming service soon we could definitely see this filling up the kids’ section.
What say you all? Do you want to see Star Wars: Detours released?
