SPOILERS:
One of the biggest surprises of the last few months was just how damned good James Gunn’s Peacemaker series was.
Picking up with John Cena’s Peacemaker character as he was first introduced in The Suicide Squad, the series was an absolute delight from start to finish and was a big hit for HBO Max.
And one of the biggest surprise in this surprise was the finale which saw an appearance by most of the Justice League.
The scene saw Peacemaker and the team meeting the League who were late to a call to save the world. The team was made up of Wonder Woman, Superman, Aquaman and Flash and even had Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller back as the later duo.
However, there was a few noticable absences in the form of Ban Affleck’s Batman and Ray Fisher’s Batman. Also, it was noticed by fans that neither Gal Gadot nor Henry Cavill played Superman or Wonder Woman.
However, it seems that at one stage Batman and Cyborg were to be included.
Actor Matt Turner took to Instagram to share an image of him wearing Affleck’s Justice League suit whihc he was originally meant to wear in the finale:
The actor wrote: “After that epic #peacemaker finale I can finally post this. Sadly I(& Cyborg) were cut from the final edit. Why? Only @jamesgunn & @warnerbrosentertainment know that. While it’s disappointing to be scrubbed out, this was still a blast, and a dream come true to wear the suit!!! Big thanks to everyone involved!!”
So, yes, he has confirmed that Batman and Cyborg were to appear.
Now, we know that Affleck has filmed his last scene as Batman which we’ll see in The Flash later this year. We also know that Ray Fisher is currently in legal wranglings with Warner Bros and Joss Whedon over his treatment during the filming of Justice League, so this likely to explain why neither were seen in the scene.
Interestingly, we recently reported that we are hearing Cavill’s Superman is still set to return to the DCEU in the near future (here), so it seems that Superman appearing in the scene means that he is still part of the main Justice League lineup.
Actors Brad Abramenko and Kimberly Vonilberg posted the below images on social media of them doubling for Cavill and Gadot (continues after images):
So, it seems that, yes, Gunn wanted the whole League to appear and while Cyborg and Batman are – for now – out, it looks like Cavill’s Superman is still flying high. Does this prove we’ll see him in Black Adam and The Flash? Well, no, but it certainly seems like he’s coming back…
Let me know your thoughts on all this cool stuff, guys,
