James Gunn announces Creature Commandos season two

It looks like James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU is off to a strong start as their first official project has just got the greenlight for a second season.

While we all know the DCU kicks off properly in July with the release of Superman, the soft beginning was Gunn’s Creature Commandos which kicked off on Max three weeks ago and it must be performing well as its just been given a second season to cause more havoc in that universe we all know and love so well.

“We’re thrilled to team up with Max for another season of Creature Commandos mayhem,” Gunn and Safran said in a statement.

James Gunn talks future of DCU, Creature Commandos, Superman, Peacemaker and more

“From our spectacular first season of Peacemaker to the astonishing run of The Penguin to the record-breaking launch of Creature Commandos, Max has consistently delivered above industry expectations and beyond our wildest imaginings. Thank you [to] the entire team for your tremendous support of DC Studios. We are proud to call Max home.”

Following in the vein of The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, Creature Commandos focuses on a bunch of misfit villains/ant-heroes who may or may not earn redemption by doing insanely dangerous – and entertaining – things. It’s a wild ride of a show and is absolutely a James Gunn production… in all the good ways; it stars Steve Agee, Maria Bakalova, Anya Chalotra, Zoe Chao, Frank Grillo, Sean Gunn, David Harbour, Alan Tudyk, Indira Varma and Viola Davis.

I’ve been really enjoying the series so far and, as a big fan of Gunn’s Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, I’m excited that we’re going to get to dip our toes in the crazy corner of the DC universe again, hopefully next year.
