While we here at FTN HQ are excited for the finale of Bad Batch next week, the re-release of The Phantom Menace in cinemas and upcoming shows Tales of the Empire and The Acolyte, we’re a greedy lot and we have been wondering why there’s been very little news about the other live-action series. Skeleton Crew, due this year.
We know the series stars Jude Law and is about a bunch of youngsters who get lost in an unknown region of the Star Wars universe, we know executive producer Dave Filoni said it’s a kids’ show in the same way Clone Wars is a kids’ show and that it’s a throw back to the Amblin coming-of-age movies of the 80s. Oh, and we know the pirates from season 3 of The Mandalorian are the bad guys. But other than that, we know very little.
And knowing very little is as exciting as it is infuriating – if you’re a Nerd or Nerdette, you’ll know what I mean.
But now we have a little of of new news as it turns out the Ireland’s own Kerry Condon, star of Banshees of Inisherin and Better Call Saul, will be in the series too.
Skeleton Crew news! Woohoo!
“It’s so great. I don’t even have kids, but I’d pay to see this. I loved it. I loved being on it. There was something about it that was so innocent and playful and lovely,” the actress, below, said of the show and her mysterious role on it.
“People say don’t work with kids or animals, but I don’t know about that. And also when children are good actors, they’re kind of out-of-this-world good. So watching some of the kids’ scenes, it was amazing. Jude Law’s in it and I’ve worked with him before [in Don Hemmingway].
“But it’s really adventurous and they got such great directors for each episode – the Daniels, Bruce Dallas Howard, Lee Isaac Cheung, David Lowery. It was a pretty amazing group. And of course, Jon Watts who created the whole thing.”
It’s not much in the way of news of details but Condon’s leaning into the young stars and the innocence and fun of the series certainly lets us know that this may well be Star Wars in a way we’re not familiar with and that excites me as a fan since ’77.
As and when there’s more Skeleton Crew news, we’ll be here with all the details… wonder will we see a trailer on May the 4th? Hmmmmmmm.
