If there’s one actor/character that’s had a crazy road on TV, it’s Matt Ryan as John Constantine.
The Welsh actor first took the role in the ABC series Constantine which was cancelled before the character was taken across by The CW to star in a few episodes of Arrow before joining The Legends of Tomorrow in the latest season as a cast regular.
And while the character is still fun, Legends has seen him diluted down to a shadow of his original self.
On top of that, he also voices the character in the current DC Animated universe.
But still, it feels like the character has yet to reach his full potential in the role.
Now, until late last year, The CW was the place to be for DC TV shows with Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning and the upcoming Batwoman, but now DC has changed the playing field with their streaming service DC Universe with Titans, Doom Patrol and the upcoming Swampthing and Stargirl and it looks like Ryan might just want a piece of that action.
At Wizard World Cleveland last week, Ryan said: “John Constantine was born in Swamp Thing. Eventually, he has to be on Swamp Thing, and I just hope it’s me… I’m still playing this role four years after Constantine was actually cancelled, so I must be doing something right.”
Now, the DC Universe shows aren’t connected in any way to The CW shows, so technically it’s not likely to happen as he wouldn’t belong in that universe… but, as Ryan has proved over the last five years, if anyone can do it, he can.
Constantine feels like a perfect fit for the DC Universe shows, but would you like to see it happen? Let us know…
