Paul Bettany talks WandaVision, unexpected characters and Vision’s genitals… no, really

With everyone talking about WandaVision at the minute and how it’s going to change the MCU moving forward, star Paul Bettany who plays Visionis doing the interview circuit and dropping some funny and interesting details about the show, the movies and the character.

When Vision died at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, it seemed pretty permanent – he wasn’t snapped by Thanos, he had the Soul Stove ripped from his head and his lifeless body was last seen collapsing to the ground. As such, he was the only actor hot to return for Avengers: Endgame, however, Bettany has revealed that we almost did see him once more in a scene that would have set up WandaVision.

“At one point there was going to be a tag, where [Scarlet Witch] opened a sort of body bag drawer and there was the Vision,” says Bettany

“[Marvel Studios boss] Kevin [Feige] kind of talked to me and said, ‘I’ve got to pull the shots.’ And I was like, ‘Ugh!’ Because I really wanted that profit participation!”

This scene would clearly have set up WandaVision and, by pure coincidence, myself and my family were chatting about the show a couple of episodes back and my son pondered how Wanda had Vision’s body, so this would have gone some way to explaining.

On a more curious bit of information, Bettany has revealed that, during Avengers: Ago of Ultron when we saw the creation of Vision, director Joss Whedon wanted Vision to be, em, anatomically correct… yes, he wanted him to have a penis.

“I know Joss Whedon apparently really, really wanted the rendition of him, when Vision first is born, before he was clothed, he was like, ‘He’s gotta have a penis,'” Bettany says.

Bettany points out that Marvel’s Feige and Louis D’Esposito didn’t think it was necessary but Whedon had concept artists draw up what that, em, appendage might look like.

“Actually, somewhere is the rendition of Vision’s birth with these penises and they put them all up on the wall,” Bettany continued.

“And they all went in and they sat down and Joss went, ‘Yeah, I’m 100-percent wrong, I don’t need to see any of these.'”

Now, while I have no real desire to see Vision’s bits, Whedon knew that, down the line, Vision and Wanda would likely have kids – as we’re seeing in WandaVision, so he obviously thought it was important that fans understood he was able to do that deed… but, this is territory I don’t want to get into lol.

And, just before you click off, it seems that the finale of WandaVision will leave an impression and may see an unexpected character arrive in the MCU with Bettany saying it will make fans “look at the MCU in a whole new light”..

He has also promised intense scenes with an unexpected actor – now, I and others have assumed that by actor he means a new character will appear. We have heard all sorts of rumours but my personal favorite would be the MCU’s version of Magneto – we know he’s Wanda’s father in the comics (although the MCU has confirmed that’s not the case although this show is all about bending reality).

Will this happen? I doubt they’d bring in a character as big as Magneto in a TV series… but if we hear Michael Fassbender had been spotted on set, well, all bets are off – and maybe that’s what he means by unexpected actor as Fassbender is the FOX Magneto.

Anyway, what say you all? Let me know your thoughts…
