We have some pretty cool news about the upcoming Obi-Wan series on Disney+ which, if true, could be considered pretty spoilery, so this is your warning.
As we all know, the series will pick up sometime after Revenge of the Sith but before A New Hope and will find Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tattooine, looking over the Skywalker twins from afar and, while we don’t know what exactly, events will take a turn that will see the Jedi return to a more active type of duty.
We reported early last year that the show would feature a young Luke and Leia (here) and it seems that Leia will have a big part to play in the series and will be played by yound Bird Box star Vivien Lyra Blair:
Word is that it is Leia, not Luke, who’s protection will draw Obi-Wan into what ever trouble he gets into in the series. Interesting.
It seems we may meet some characters from Star Wars: Rebels in the show too, only around a decade younger than they were in that show… that makes sense as Star Wars: The Bad Batch has brought back younger versions of Kanan, Hera and Chopper.
However, one of the more exciting bits of news is that Fast and Furious star Sung Kang will be playing a big villain from Rebels in the show… an Inquisitor and not just any Inquisitor, but the Fifth Son.
This would make sense as in a new interview about being on the show (below) Kang hinted at meeting Darth Vader on the set and the Inquisitors would answer to Vader and we know Hayden Christiansen is back too, soooooooo…
It seems the show will feature several Inquisitors and it’s likely they will all be chasing down Kenobi.
This is all very exciting because it means Kenobi is connecting the movies to the animated shows and bringing it all together.
I have also heard rumours that the show may feature the Bad Batch in a live-action appearance and that The Book of Boba Fett star Temuera Morrison has also been cast as Commander Cody – an old friend of Obi-Wan’s from the Clone Wars who ultimately came very close to killing him when Order-66 was activated. We’ve been reporting on this for over a year, so I do think there’s something to it (here).
It’s interesting too because we know that there was once plans to have Cody appear as a villain in Rebels at one point, so we could be seeing this happen here instead.
So, there you have it, very exciting stuff in here to get your teeth into.
The series is expected to air around March time next year and we’re already counting the days down.
“There’s this feeling of legacy… there’s this kind of shared spirit and this passion of why we wanted to come into Hollywood.”
