Now that Sinners in out – I’ve not got to it yet due to a lovely stomach bug but I’m hearing nothing but great things – director Ryan Coogler is turning his attention back to a project he’s been touting for a few years now, The X-Files.
Back in 2020 a new X-Files animated series dubbed Alberquerque was set to go into production but it never came to light and then in 2023, it was revealed that Black Panther and Creed’s Ryan Coogler was planning on telling the world he wants to believe.
And thankfully, he still does.
“I’ve been excited about that for a long time and I’m fired up to get back to it,” Coogler said in a new interview, below.
Revealing that the new take on the series is ‘immediately next’ for him, he said with glee that he’s looking forward to making some properly scary TV: “Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really f@~king scary.”
Chris Carter’s iconic series first arrived in 1993 and made instant stars of David Duchnovny and Gillian Anderson and household names of their characters, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. It went on for eight season, had a couple of big-screen outings and was revived in 2026 and 2018.
Seemingly shooting down any worries of a full reboot, Coogler confirms he’s been speaking to Gillian Anderson about having her involved: “She’s incredible and fingers crossed there… We’re going to try to make something really great, bro, and make something for the real ‘X-Files’ fans and maybe find some new ones.”
The X-Files still has a massive fanbase and is finding new ones all the time, it’s a show that was iconic in its day and perhaps, in the crazy world we live in now, is even more so today, so Coogler has a lot to deal with taking this on.
If Sinners is anything to go by, we are in for a treat.
Thoughts? We know you have them and I wanna hear them.
