It seems that the Galaxy Quest sequel is finally going ahead with Simon Pegg at the controls.
Yes, a sequel to the superb 1999 comedy movie starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman and Sam Rockwell as the crew of a TV show spaceship, the Galaxy Quest, is now being developed by Pegg after the sequel – once planned as a series – sat in development hell for years.
The Thick Of It and Succession writer Georgia Pritchett will be working with Pegg, left, who wrote the last Star Trek movie, on the sequel.
Star Rockwell recently revealed that the tragic death of Rickman threw a spanner in the works for the sequel (here), saying: “We were ready to sign up, and [then] Alan Rickman passed away and Tim Allen wasn’t available – he has a show – and everybody’s schedule was all weird.”
However, in recent months and years, Tim Allan (here) and Sigourney Weaver (here) both said they believed the franchise isn’t dead and there was hopes to make the sequel still, with Allan saying “It doesn’t mean they can’t reboot the idea … the underlying story was hysterical and fun.”
In a world full of mediocre Star Trek shows and where we’re waiting for The Orville Season 3 (here), it’s hard to imagine where the sequel’s home will be but, by Grabthar’s Hammar, well be here to see the Galaxy Quest head off on a new adventure anytime.
