Bad news for fans of Star Wars as it seems one of Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau’s planned shows, Rangers of the New Republic, has been chopped from the franchise’s future plans.
While little was known about the show, it was announced by Kathleen Kennedy late last year and would have joined the Favreau/Filoni corner of the Star Wars universe (the best corner by a country mile) along with sister shows The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka with the plan being that these would all overlap periodically for big crossover events.
However, now Variety are reporting that the show ‘is not currently in active development’.
Many fans, ourselves included, presumed the series was originally set to star Gina Carano’s Cara Dune character, left, who was introduced in The Mandalorian and showed that, yes, Star Wars did still remember how to do well-rounded, bad-ass female characters – however, the actress was fired recently (although Disney was still happy to put her forward for an Emmy – nice).
It now seems that all the naysayers who backed the ‘her character was inconsequential and would never get her own series’ theory have been well and truly proven wrong.
We keep hearing whispers that Disney regrets letting the actress go but so far nothing has come from any of it and we’d imagine that, unless it does happen, Rangers of the New Republic will remain in carbonite.
What say you all? Are you disappointed this part of the Filoni-verse has been scrapped? Let em know.
