Fans of Supergirl will notice a bit of a change next season as Kara’s mother, Alura, will be played by a different actress… albeit a familiar one.
The actress who has played her in the first two seasons, Laura Benanti (above left) will be replaced by actress Erica Durance (above right) and if she seems familiar it’s because she was Lois Lane in the Superman TV series Smallville.
So, once again, The CW and showrunner Greg Berlanti draw on the back catalogue of familiar, awesome DC TV faces.
Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement: “Unfortunately Laura, who Greg [Berlanti] and I have worked with for years going back to Eli Stone, was unable to continue in the role due to work commitments in New York.
“But we are so blessed that Erica has come aboard to offer her own interpretation of Kara’s mother. We had tremendous success with a former Lois Lane last season with Teri Hatcher. We know Erica will continue the proud tradition of legacy actors joining our shows and creating new and exciting takes on classic DC characters.”
We love that not only do the guys behind these shows pick great actors in the roles but they have developed a knack for going back to the source of DC shows and picking fan favourites too.
Keep up the great work, guys!
Supergirl returns Monday, Oct. 9, at 8 p.m. on The CW.
