After the devastating events in LA this week Marvel and Netflix have pulled their Punisher panel from New York Comic Con this weekend.
The attack during a concert at the Vegas Strip in which a gunman fired into the crowd from his 32nd-floor hotel room at Vegas’ Mandalay Bay left almost 60 people dead and over 500 injured and, as a mark of respect, the panel was cancelled, given the violent nature of The Punisher.
In a statement, Netflix and Marvel said: “We are stunned and saddened by this week’s senseless act in Las Vegas. After careful consideration, Netflix and Marvel have decided it wouldn’t be appropriate for Marvel’s The Punisher to participate in New York Comic-Con.
“Our thoughts continue to be with the victims and those affected by this tragedy.”
NYCC said in response that they “wholeheartedly support Netflix & Marvel’s decision to cancel Saturday’s The Punisher panel.
“NYCC takes great pride in offering fans the best in pop culture programming and we are working tirelessly to fill that time spot at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. We will continue to update fans via our social channels throughout the weekend.”
Our thoughts an prayers are with the victims and their loved ones of this horrifying act.
UPDATE ONE:
It seems that The Punisher panel will be replaced with a never-before-seen interview with Stan Lee from a Paley Center conversation between Marvel’s Joe Queseda and Lee that took place in April and that has only been seen by the 125 peole preent at the original events… until now.
This is your chance to “experience Stan as he answers questions that he has rarely been asked and reveals never-before-heard stories and thoughts on some of the greatest moments in his personal life, professional career, and the history of Marvel.”
UPDATE TWO:
Newsday is reporting that the first series of Punisher is being pushed back due to the events in LA and, while we were pretty sure the show would appear in November, it seems there’s no word on when it will air now.
