Could Spider-man, yes, THAT Spider-man, appear in season two of… Invincible?
Well, the answer to that is simple… maybe?
So, after the highly anticipated teaser for Invincible season 2 dropped over the weekend (here) and eagle-eyed – very eagle-eyed – fans spotted something very interesting… the cover of the 2005 Superhero Team-up Special which saw Invincible creator Robert Kirkman bring Invincible and, you guessed it, Spider-man together:
The characters have previously crossed over in the comics

It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment and most people did, but while it could be a little bit of fun, it’s likely it’s much, much bigger than that: Kirkman has revealed that Invincible Season 2 will have a multiverse element to its plot meaning that, like Spider-man in No Way Home and Beyond the Spider-verse, Invincible will likely cross realities and see other worlds related to Image Comics… and maybe some not related?
“It’s funny because I don’t think I knew about Far From Home or Spider-Verse – or maybe Spider-Verse was out – but when we decided to do this for Season 2,” Kirkman said
“I didn’t know that there was a Flash movie. It’s literally everywhere. I don’t know what it is about it. I think it’s a great tool to use to bring different incarnations of things in, which I think is kind of becoming… I’m gonna say easy button. It’s like, ‘let’s make this cool, bring that guy from that other thing in here.’ And so it’s super cool and as a fan, I love it.”
In Season 2 new villain Angstrom Levy, played by This Is Us and Supernatural star Sterling K Brown, will have the ability to open other universes but in a way that’s more akin to a 90s romantic drama than any recent superhero shenanigans, Kirkman explains: “It’s not just about pulling different things that you may love into a story through the Multiverse. It’s a very character-driven story. There’s a lot of drama to it seeing the Sliding Doors aspect of another dimension, and finding out, like, how things went a different way when different decisions were made. We’re kind of drilling it down to its simplest form, and it’s not this massive… I’m trying not to say the word unwieldy, thing.”

So, Invincible will now have a multiverse element at the same time that Peter Parker is exploring the multiverse in Now Way Home and Miles Morales is exploring it in Beyond the Spider-verse and Spidey and Invincible have met before in the multiverse and this has a direct nod in the new trailer? Well, if that’s not enough to convince you, how about we rub a little more sauce on there?
Amazon Prime, who airs Invincible, also has a Sony deal and that’s who owns Spider-man and, perhaps the cherry on the cake? Actor Josh Keaton has been cast in Invincible Season 2 in a mystery role and he’s the voice of Spider-man in the 2000s animated shows Spectacular Spider-man and Spider-man… I mean, if Spidey doesn’t appear, they’re really going far to get one over on the fans!
What do you all think? Will Spider-man make a brief appearance in season 2? Will he have a big role? Or will he not appear at all, meaning I’m just losing the plot completely?
Thoughts? I know you have them! Voice-off in the usual ways on FTN’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
