Comic Relief AKA Red Nose Day here in the UK, as well as raising millions for worthy causes, has a history with Doctor Who and it looks like tomorrow’s show will also feature our favourite Time Lord.
Up until now, we were wondering if Doctor Who would be appearing – it is, after all, the show’s 60th anniversary and we were hoping there’d be a new teaser or clip of the show’s big event arc coming in November but it seems that while the Doctor will feature, it might not be what we expected.
A new teaser for Comic Relief features David Tennant in his new Doctor’s costume – as seen above – as well as comedian Lenny Henry – who once played the Doctor in his sketch show in the 80s:
Comedy was different in the 80s… Henry was also in the Spyfall episode in series 12 opposite Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor as the villainous Daniel Barton. On appearing, he said: “It was absolutely brilliant to be welcomed into the fantastical world of Doctor Who. The nearest I have been to the TARDIS was when I played the Caribbean Doctor in the Lenny Henry Show [above], so as a life-long (hiding behind the sofa type) Doctor Who fan this is a very special moment for me.”
However, it’s unlikely Henry will be reprising that role but rather he and Tennant will, according to the official synopsis, below, ‘be appearing alongside each other in a Doctor Who 60th Anniversary sketch, due to be shown throughout the night’. This leads us to believe that, rather than adding to the story or lore of the upcoming 60th anniversary, the sketches will be played for laughs… although it wouldn’t surprise us if we got something a little bit more exciting along the way too.
Watch the trailer below and see you all tomorrow night.
David Tennant and Lenny Henry team up to deliver a taste of the action-packed lineup that Red Nose Day 2023 has to offer. Both David Tennant and Lenny Henry will be appearing alongside each other in a Doctor Who 60th Anniversary sketch, due to be shown throughout the night.
