It looks like the Scrubs reboot/relaunch has just had a major boost as Zach Braff is now confirmed to return.

The original series followed new Doctor John Dorian ‘JD’ as he went from newbie to professional, it was always JD’s story and having Braff back makes sense.

The series is from original creator Bill Lawrence and according to Deadline, Braff’s negotiations almost led to the whole series being derailed:

The deal with Braff comes after months of touch-and-go negotiations that hit major hurdles over both money and Braff’s request for the series to film in Los Angeles and not Vancouver as originally planned, sources said. The impasse was so serious, there was a chance for the entire project to be, um, scrubbed, until the two sides recently came to an agreement.

Word is that now that Braff is firmly onboard, it’s expected that the other original cast members Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, John C. McGinley and Judy Reyes who played Elliott, Turk, Cox and Carla, will be approached to return too.

Previously Lawrence said that the new series will pick up with the original cast fifteen years further into their careers but will also introduce another whole cast of characters who will be the main focus of the show.

It’s worth pointing out that Scrubs, while massive in the early 2000s, ended in a very understand way by, em, introducing a whole new cast of characters in the show’s ninth season (in 2010!), however, it only lasted 13 episodes and kind of just faded away, so hopefully, this will be a better chance to do it right.

I loved Scrubs and will be seated for its return… I just worry that that lightning cannot be trapped in the same bottle twice. thoughts?
