Microsoft did not disappoint this year. Boasting a wide variety of trailers for games but one of the more interesting announcements was the plan to introduce their new console Project Scarlett to the world Holiday of 2020. There was a lot revealed so let’s break it down.
Project xCloud: Microsoft gave an official release date for xCloud for October this year. It will allow you to use any device to stream your Xbox One library. It is pretty bold and I am certainly interested to see how it works. In addition to your personal game library, you can stream your Xbox Game Pass titles as well. It will compete directly with Google’s Stadia streaming console. Time will tell to see who pulls the ambitious streaming game off, but my guess with Microsoft’s gaming experience they have an upper-hand.
Gears of War and Halo Infinite: Gears of War finally got a release date (September 10) and some sweet trailers showcasing the main character Kait Diaz. The second trailer showed a brand new game mode called “Escape”. The fun did not stop there with an announcement of a crossover event with Terminator: Dark Fate playing as Sarah Connor. Halo Infinite was given a release window of Fall 2020. It will be a launch title for the new Project Scarlett.
Elden Ring: Leaked before the announcement, Elden Ring is an ambitious collaboration between Game of Throne writer George R.R. Martin and Dark Souls creator FromSoftware. This is going to be quite the fantasy epic from these two. Hopefully, this game doesn’t take as long to come out as the newest GoT book.
Cyberpunk 2077: The best announcement of the night was Cyberpunk 2077 getting a release date (April 16th, 2020) and a surprise appearance from Keanu Reeves himself. He’s been cast in the game itself and it looks positively rad.
Other games announced were a brand new Battletoads game, Minecraft: Dungeons, Blair Witch (yes based on the movie), and finally Fallout: New Vegas developers showcased more footage of The Outer Worlds. Microsoft made it all about the games and it was certainly amazing. To be honest, this was probably one of the better Microsoft conferences recently.
