Star Wars Battlefront 2, easily one of the most disappointing games to have come out in my lifetime (next to Fallout 76).
And, with all the bad press from both online and mainstream media, the game flopped as something that should have been a standard Star Wars sequel turned into a thing of horror with loot boxes and pay-to-win. Lucky for EA, some of their fans still stuck around while they worked to fix this and now Battlefront 2 actually has a decent player base. Unfortunately, with the demise of 2 it looks like we won’t see a third game any time soon.
In an interview with Dennis Brannval, the design director for the games has come out and said that there’s no interest in a third game of the series, at least none from the fans: “We were so used to the chain of sequels, where we do a sequel then we do a season pass for a year then move onto the next game. I think the industry has changed on that, before it was very transactional and we made the game and we signed up for 4 DLCs and then that’s it. So then you focus on getting value to players out of what they paid for and if there was a system that wasn’t working then you put a pin in that and say we will fix it in the sequel.”
That last bit actually worked out quite well for EA with not working on fixing the issue in the sequel and fixing it in the game that’s currently out, it was Battlefront 2’s only saving grace that they actually fixed it on the fly.
According to David, DICE and EA wont be doing anymore game like Battlefront 3 together and will be working on different projects instead, that being said the window has still been left open for Battlefront 3 but wont be happening any time soon and that’s probably a good thing, need to let people grieve for Battlefront 2 first.
