With everyone excited for Daredevil arriving in a few short days and Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist on the horizon at Netflix and Marvel, we’re already thinking about what might come next. We’re just like that, you see.
So, we’re thinking Ghostrider and Punisher might be a good place to start… and lo, it looks like we aren’t the only thinking of the big white skull on a black muscle top.
Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight has been talking about making an R-Rated Punisher series: “I’d love to see him get his due on a platform like this,” he said, talking about the Daredevil TV plans, “Nothing would delight me more than to see the Punisher get his own show and maybe we could convince Marvel to go Hard-R rating. If any character deserves an R rating, it’s the Punisher.”
DeKnight has said that, while Daredevil isn’t R-Rated, it is very dark – it certainly looks darker than anything Marvel have done yet – and he reckons this is a good place to start with getting the Punisher we deserve: “Steven DeKnight said that Daredevil is one bad day away from being the Punisher. I thought that was really helpful. Again, it adds to the dark tone, and I think it’s more interesting to watch.”
Remember, the Russo brothers hinted that we may have – sort of – seen Punisher in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, so he’s certainly on Marvel’s mind.
Daredevil’s 13 episodes hit Netflix on April 10th.
