We reported in March that Steven Spielberg was set to direct the movie adaptation of Ernest Cline’s celebrated novel Ready Player One and now it has a release date.

The movie will be released on December 15th, 2017 by Warner Bros: “A three-time Academy Award winner, Spielberg (Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan) is directing Ready Player One, based on Ernest Cline’s bestseller of the same name, which has become a worldwide phenomenon. The film is being produced by Spielberg; Donald De Line, under his De Line Pictures banner; Dan Farah; and Spielberg’s longtime colleague Kristie Macosko Krieger; with Bruce Berman serving as executive producer. De Line and Farah originally brought the project to Warner Bros.”

Ready Player One is a celebrated book set in a future where mankind lives through a virtual world and is riddled with 80s pop culture – everything form Doctor Who to Back to the Future, from BSG  to Blade Runner, so this could be a bigger licensing nightmare than The LEGO Movie, that said, it could be the ultimate nostalgia trip for fans and if there’s one man we trust to get these license onside, it’s Spielberg,

We’re as excited as can be for this one…

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
