Meet Richard. He has problems.
Not the usual problems you’d expect from somebody in his late 20s living in Mile End, a part of East London made infamous in a song by Pulp. Rick sees dead people. Not ghosts per se, rather he sees how people die. Constantly. Every single time he looks at a human or animal, he sees their inevitable death. And just when he can’t stands no more, Alice walks into his life and things get really weird.
I’ve been a fan of T Pub’s stuff for some time now. This book hasn’t been a disappointment. Dan Watters drives Gibson’s storyline onwards at a frenetic pace, accompanied by awesome artwork from Caspar and Jan Wijngaard. Richard’s sense of fear is palpable as the story becomes darker and darker, with the true reason behind his curse emerging. Not wanting to drop any spoilers here, but suffice to say it’s just as twisted as you’d expect.
So, great story, great artwork. The only problem I have is that the finale seems a little rushed, with the ending very abrupt. But otherwise this is a brilliant book.
