We love it!
As massive fans of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate books (I’m reading them to my kids at the minute and we’re all having such a blast with them – Marc), we’ve been watching with great interest to see who would get hired to play Count Olaf in the new series set for Netflix, especially after Jim Carrey did such a great job in the 2004 movie.
And now we are giddy over the news that Neil Patrick Harris is apparently in talks for the role! Olaf is a nasty, despicable and totally over the top character that needs to be played with a horribly nasty sense of humour and we really think Harris can bring all sorts of fun – and dark – qualities to the show.
Paramount Television is producing the series in association with Netflix with Daniel Handler, the real Lemony Snicket, executive producing.
In related news, it seems that True Blood’s Mark Hudis, who was showrunner on the series, has stepped down. No word yet on who will replace him
A Series of Unfortunate Events tells the story of the three Baudelaire orphans who are left to fend for themselves in a world full of evil and incompetent family members after their parents die in a mysterious fire. As if that’s not bad enough, the despicable Count Olaf is after the children to get his hands on their considerable family inheritance. The books are a delight… we hope the series can at least try to match it.
Netflix picked up the drama in November 2014 with a 13-episode straight-to-series order. An official premiere date has not yet been announced.
