With Star Wars dominating the box office, it is easy to forget that Jurassic World had impressive figures earlier in the year. However, with the film’s director, Colin Trevorrow, migrating to Star Wars: Episode IX, the Jurassic franchise has been left, somewhat adrift.

However, it would seem that the announcement of a replacement might be imminent. Rumours have begun to circle that Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage and The Impossible) may be the studio’s new choice.

This all seems to be based off the fact that Bayona has recently left the long-gestating sequel to World War Z, due to several delays. Given this break in the schedule, Universal seems to view him as a likely candidate for Jurassic World 2. On top of all of this, Bayona is said to have a strong working relationship with Jurassic World’s producer, Frank Marshall.

As of this moment, the sequel is still scheduled for a June 22nd 2018 release date, so there is still plenty of time to make an announcement, hopefully sooner, rather than later.
