Ok, when I was sitting watching the credits after Batman V Superman I noticed Jimmy Olsen in there.
And I turned to my brother ,who I was with, and said: “Jimmy Olsen?! How’d I miss that?”
Turns out I didn’t miss him… but he WAS there. Confused? I was too.
We – and many others – reported that Scoot McNairy was probably Olsen and we now know this isn’t the case.
So, who was Olsen in the movie? Well, let’s just say that if you’re a fan of the character, you probably won’t like this…
The O.C actor Michael Cassidy (who also appeared in Smallville and is pictured below) was Olsen… and he was the CIA photographer who was with Lois at the start of the movie and who is shot in the head and killed.
Yes, really.
“We just did it as this little aside because we had been tracking where we thought the movies were gonna go, and we don’t have room for Jimmy Olsen in our big pantheon of characters, but we can have fun with him, right?” said director Zack Snyder.
Although his name isn’t mentioned in the theatrical version, we can expect it to be made official in the ultimate cut home release: “He comes up to her [Lois] and he goes, ‘Lois Lane, I’m Jimmy Olsen, photographer, obviously … You know, I’ve been assigned to you for this mission.’ But it turns out that Jimmy Olsen is a spook for the CIA.”
We’re not happy about this to be honest.
We know to many Olsen is a small character in the DC Universe but to us he was the depiction of Superman/Clark Kent/Kal-El’s humanity. Superman is a god among men and yet his best friend is this slight guy who, to many, is insignificant but to Superman he plays a massive part in the man he is both in and out of the red and blue.
But maybe that’s just us.
What do you guys think?
