We have all acquired our individual first impressions of Jared Leto’s Joker from the two Suicide Squad trailers, but now we know how Batman himself feels.
The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice cast appeared on the Conan O’Brien Show this weekend for a special episode dedicated to the newly-released movie and the host took the opportunity to ask Affleck, who will cameo as the Caped Crusader in Suicide Squad, what Leto was like as the Clown Prince of Crime.
Conan: I’ve got to ask Ben, because Ben shot scenes for Suicide Squad, highly anticipated. You’ve seen several people play the joker. Any comments on his performance?
Ben: I think Jared Leto was a genius but I’m bound by more confidentiality agreements than you can shake a stick at. I’m just going about my business.
Conan: I’m not asking you to disclose anything other than —
Ben: He’s brilliant. Masterful. Brilliant, brilliant guy.
So, there you have it – Leto has created something ‘genius’ with his interpretation of the Joker. We’re officially overflowing with excitement.
Suicide Squad will be released on August 5.
In related news, Leto has talked about how it’s been a privilege to bring his own take to the character, especially after the talent that has gone before: “The work that’s been done on this character by so many people before me has been so impactful and incredible,” Leto explained. “It’s a very special thing to take on that responsibility.
“It a weighty thing to do, but it’s exciting. The Joker is one of those roles. He was written brilliantly when he was first shared with the world 75 years ago and I think I’m just really grateful I had the opportunity.”
