EA has confirmed that fans of the Battlefield series won’t be getting a new game in the franchise for a number of years.
Whilst hardly a surprise given the recent release, and success, of Battlefield 1, it’s interesting nonetheless.
Speaking at an investor briefing in Europe this week, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said the company was more interested in further engaging players in the product along the lines of the EA Sports Ultimate Team model which could be adopted to the game.
“We’re looking at all of our games and asking, ‘How might we provided additional opportunities for the player to engage?’ The players want to engage deeply in the game,” he said.
“It’s not just about building another game. If we can build another stream of revenue that’s high-profit, it’s highly accretive to the overall company.”
Meanwhile, Jorgensen revealed that the sequel to Star Wars Battlefront will be “much bigger, much more exciting” after his firm took on board criticism from fans that the game wasn’t deep enough.
He also said that the new game, which is expected in the Autumn of 2017, would focus on “the new movies“.
The last Battlefront DLC, due out in a few weeks and called Rogue One: Scarif, will ofcouse focus on the new standalone movie.
