Oh, look, it’s a day ending in a ‘y’ so there’s another rumour that the original Star Wars Trilogy is getting a home release.
Only, here’s the thing, this time it may well be true.
The MakingStarWars guys are reporting it this time and they really tend to have their finger on the pulse when it comes to new Star Wars news so we’re giving this the time of day it may well deserve.
They write: “Every time there is a rainy day, a slow news week, or a Star Wars drought, a rumor starts to go around that the un-altered version of the Star Wars Trilogy will be re-released. I generally have it as a policy that we don’t run those rumors because they are generally wrong. However, over the last month the evidence and tips have been piling up that the unaltered original trilogy will be re-released this year for the 40th anniversary in various formats. Several sources have let us know it was coming and it appears to actually be on the way this time.”
“At this time, we firmly believe the unaltered original edits of the 1977, 1980, and 1983 cuts of the original Star Wars Trilogy will officially be re-released soon.”
Now, personally, I like the Special Editions, I really do – I think they go a long way to making the entire saga feel organic, like it all really ties together.
That said, I would love to sit and watch the movies that I saw in the cinema as a child and that helped create the man I am today, especially with my young family. So, while I probably will still reach for the Special Editions when I ‘m doing my Star Wars marathon, the idea of having these on my shelf is very appealing indeed.
And for the 40th Anniversary? Well, that’s just perfect, isn’t it?
Let us know if you would pick these up along with the rest of us…
